Broward's flooding should ease as drier air and sunny skies arrive Thursday

If your street is still a pond, relief is coming. The National Weather Service in Miami says drier air and sunny skies move in Thursday and last through the weekend, after rain that was due to taper off Wednesday afternoon. The heaviest totals fell between Weston and Sunrise.

Blame an upper-level low over the eastern Gulf of Mexico that pulled in tropical moisture while slow storms kept "" over the same neighborhoods. Flash flooding left vehicles stranded at .

  • Sunrise to Coral Springs: 6 to 10 inches overnight into Tuesday
  • Palm Beach County and Treasure Coast: 15 to 20 inches
  • Davie: St. Bonaventure Catholic School closed Monday

Rain began Monday, and sunshine is forecast from Thursday

  1. Nov. 2Heavy rain starts around 4 p.m. in Sunrise, one resident says.
  2. Nov. 3 opens at 2 p.m., and some polling places change.
  3. Nov. 4Rain is due to taper off in the afternoon.
  4. Nov. 5Drier air and sunny skies move in through the weekend.

Sunrise's Erich Lachs said the standing water sits in areas engineered to hold it, and "it naturally takes time for water to recede." Sunrise resident Nadia Samad said Wednesday the flooding near her home had "tripled" overnight. We suggest skipping flooded roads until it drains.
