Heavy rain flooded parts of Broward on Monday night and left cars stranded at Sawgrass Mills and outside Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise after the Panthers-Red Wings game. Fans waded out through nearly knee-high water, and some left their cars behind. Sunrise Mayor Mike Ryan said the water "is supposed to stay on this property," but seven inches of rain in six hours plus a big event was "kind of a catastrophe for a lot of folks."
In Plantation Acres, some people rode horses through the flooded streets. Resident Kathleen Fanjul said police and neighbors watched her car because the water was past the bottom of her door.

- Tow truck: got stuck in a ditch during a rescue attempt
- Tuesday afternoon: more showers expected, though not as widespread
If your car sat in floodwater, we suggest having a mechanic check it before you turn the key. Starting a vehicle with water in the cylinders can destroy its motor. Fan Jeff Berman's electric car wouldn't start when he came back Tuesday.
